XCMG XE215GA 21.5-Tonne Excavator: Specs, Configurations and Quote Price

The XCMG XE215GA is a 21–23 tonne class crawler excavator built for general earthmoving, road construction, municipal work and quarry loading. XCMG’s published specification lists an operating weight of 22,500 kg, a standard bucket of 1.05 m³ and a rated engine output of 129 kW. Those three figures are the ones most buyers quote, yet they say little about how the machine will perform on a specific site. The rest of the sheet, from hydraulic flow to tail swing radius, is what determines cycle time, transport cost and the attachments the machine can carry.

Engine and power delivery

The XE215GA uses a Cummins B7 six-cylinder diesel engine with 6.7 litres of displacement, turbocharging and air-to-air intercooling. Rated power is 129 kW at 2,000 rpm. Published torque figures differ between specification sheets: XCMG-derived documentation lists 850 N·m at 1,200 rpm, while some market listings show 745 N·m at 1,500 rpm. The difference reflects build and emission variants rather than a single universal tune, and it is one reason a quotation should always name the exact configuration.

XCMG states that the engine is matched to a low-speed, high-torque curve, with torque about 15 percent higher than the previous generation and response time shortened by roughly 20 percent. The exhaust after-treatment is designed for a long ash-cleaning interval of up to 5,000 hours, with automatic regeneration cycles around 105 hours. Emission level depends on the destination market: domestic Chinese units are built to China IV, and export units are configured to the standard required by the importing country. Buyers should confirm the emission documentation before shipment, because it affects registration and resale in the destination country.

Hydraulic system and digging forces

The hydraulic circuit uses two variable displacement piston pumps with a rated flow of 2 × 225 L/min. Main relief pressure is 34.3 MPa, with a 37 MPa boost setting; swing pressure is 28 MPa and pilot pressure 3.9 MPa. XCMG fits an electronically controlled positive-flow system with feed-forward control, which adjusts pump output to the load instead of running at a fixed displacement. In practice, that is what makes combined boom, arm and bucket movements feel coordinated rather than sequential.

Digging force is published as 165 kN at the bucket and 120 kN at the arm, with maximum traction force of 184 kN. Four working modes are available: standard, high efficiency, breaker and plateau. The high-efficiency mode raises flow for bulk loading, while the breaker mode limits pressure for hammer work. The machine can be plumbed for a hydraulic breaker with a 135 mm pin diameter, and quick-couplers allow attachment changes in about a minute.

Working range and dimensions

The working envelope is the part of the specification that most often decides whether a machine suits a job. The standard boom measures 5,680 mm and the arm 2,910 mm.

Transport dimensions are approximately 9,800 mm long, 2,990 mm wide and 3,100 mm high, with a track length of 4,255 mm and 600 mm shoe plates. Minimum ground clearance is 480 mm. Ground pressure is listed at 48.6 kPa, which matters on soft ground and on finished surfaces. Gradeability is 35 degrees, travel speed is 6.0 km/h in high range and 3.3 km/h in low range, and swing speed is 11.8 rpm on the standard sheet.

An optional boom of 5,200 mm with a 2,410 mm arm shortens the reach but improves lifting capacity and reduces the transport envelope. Bucket options run from 0.8 m³ to 1.3 m³, covering earthmoving, strengthened and rock-duty designs.

Capacities and service planning

Fluid capacities are 400 litres of fuel, 150 litres of hydraulic oil and 23.7 litres of engine oil. XCMG specifies hydraulic oil life of up to 4,000 hours with nanometre filtration, which lowers consumable cost over a long duty cycle. For a fleet manager, the more useful calculation is fuel burn per cubic metre moved rather than litres per hour, because the positive-flow system trades flow against load. A machine working in high-efficiency mode on bulk loading will post different numbers from one trenching in standard mode.

Where the specification sheet stops

A published table describes a factory-new machine. Most XE215GA units in the export market are working machines, and their value depends on condition rather than model name. Hour meter readings should be checked against service records, main pump pressure measured against the 34.3 MPa specification, and undercarriage wear assessed at the track shoes, rollers, idlers and sprockets. Structural welds on the boom, arm and main frame deserve a close look, as do the hydraulic cylinders and hose routings.

Buyers receive 40 to 60 photographs and a two to three minute walkaround video before paying a deposit, and third-party inspection through SGS or an equivalent body can be arranged on request.
